Peace On Earth

Peace on Earth

Isn’t it interesting how close Peace On Earth is to Peace One Earth.

Just an ‘e’ makes the difference. And at risk of being really cheesy, I would say that that “e” is for everybody.

Not only peace for the deserving, or the privileged, or the worthy, or the sane. We will only have peace on earth if everybody has peace in their hearts and minds.

I know that we are only responsible for ourselves. But by being responsible for ourselves, we are also responsible for what we tolerate, how we speak to others, how we include others, what we buy, who we vote for, who we forgive, how we show love to others, and how we show love to ourselves. How we treat others will help in our healing process, but in theirs, too.

We can change the world outside by changing our world inside. We can decide who we want to be, what we want to believe, how we want to act; be that in all our actions, and that can ripple out far beyond what we can imagine. From one person to the next, connecting us all in a web of peace.

Does the possibility of peace of earth seem impossible to believe? I don’t think so, but I have been believing it for a long time. We act angry, we put anger out there into the world; we seek revenge, we put resentment out there, and we feel it, too. We see evil, we experience evil. We see what we want to see, and we see reflected all around us what is inside us. I don’t think the world can afford more of this turbulence.

For a future to be possible

It has to start with us. This is a season for rebirth and renewal.  It is a time for commitments, wishes, and faith to be solidified. We can be anything we want to be. I will focus this year on how I treat others.

Here are my commitments:

I will protect life.

I will teach for me and learn for my students.

I will act with generosity more than last year.

I will take a deep breath before getting angry and decide if it matters that much.

I will think before making decisions, so a “yes” has no strings or regret.

I will believe in people, know that they are just on their journey, and I can trust it.

I will trust myself, so I don’t alienate people in guise of protecting myself.

I will speak responsibly, prioritizing integrity and kindness.

I will listen with my whole heart.

I will chose connection.

I will shop consciously.

I will sing my song.

All of these commitments, I will follow up with action and practice. Everything we do can be an act of peace, why not make it one.

How will you contribute towards peace on earth?

My next post will be after the New Year! Enjoy the holidays with your loved ones.

Love your list Jodi!

Yes indeed, it’s just a simple alphabet but the ‘e’ here makes all the difference. Speaking of myself, I think I will start with myself first because when I am at peace with myself then alone can I spread it with and among others – isn’t it? So, whatever little I can do to make myself and my life more peaceful I would work for that, and then try and make the world a more peaceful place. Like they say it always starts with you 🙂

Thanks for sharing, and wishing you and yours a Merry Christmas and New Year’s as well 🙂

I do think it always starts with you. Everything is within us. Keep up the good work!

I enjoyed connecting with you, too and reading your gorgeous words. You are deeply profound in every sentence and I get lost in them. Have a great Christmas!

Thank you Jodi! I will definitely adopt many of your commitments for myself along with some of my own. The first thing on my list is I will stop allowing (to the best of my ability and probably many times) guilt to run my life because it is not real and hass been a liar to me my whole life. It’s is time to STOP IT! 🙂

Jodi Lobozzo Aman

In stopping “allowing guilt to run your life” you can finally ALLOW yourself to be you. And you are beautiful!

Hi Jodi. Something interesting happened to me – twice – the past two mornings while I was “Writing Down My Soul,” Janet Conner style. Yesterday I asked my Inner Voice/Great Spirit/God what I should call him/her and, at that very instant, a crow cawed loudly outside my living room door – just once, then silence. I took that as a sign and addressed my inner voice as Black Crow. This morning there was a large picture of a blonde woman talking to a black raven on page 3 our local paper. I took that as an another sign and, addressing my Inner Voice as Black Raven this time, I asked, “How about a new title for my novel (the current title is “Between Now and Forever”)? Instantly my Samsung rang to announce that I had a new message. I clicked on it and it showed me a link to your blog post, “Peace on Earth,” via Spiritual and Inspirational Writers on She Writes. Okay, I thought. Nice. But not really an answer. And then I saw your header, “heal now and forever be in peace.” Oh my. I also noticed that your last name is Aman, close enough to “Amen” to be a sign (sort of). I don’t know what my Inner Voice/Black Raven’s message is exactly, but it was an interesting way to start the day. I’ll bookmark your site and be back. Thanks!

Margaret,
There is definitely a connection, since I am connected to Barbara Marx Hubbard via John Perkins. It is uncanny the closeness of our words and maybe we will interlink on this journey, and someone help sustain each other! Keep listening and the answers will come!

Hi Jodi. Yes, I’m looking forward to future links on our journeys. I’ll start by subscribing to your blog post and email updates.

Great question Jodi. I will promote peace by being peace. I will promote health and abundance by being healthy and abundant.

Love the video btw. 🙂

You said you will focus on how to treat others this year, but what can you still do more than what you are already doing?
I try to treat others in a proper way. I try to keep a peaceful environment and peaceful relationships. It isn’t always easy, but it is still easier than being in peace with myself. Guilt is the enemy. It makes me feel like a failure although I know in my heart, that I always do what i do with love and forgiveness.

Sometimes I am too busy going through a store and don’t want to say hi to anyone, I don’t want to be like this anymore. Get rid of the guilt!

Hi Jodi

This is a great list. It has to start from myself, if I am healthy, wealthy and wise, I can spread that across.

Thanks for sharing this list.Merry Christmas and Happy New year.

An excellent list, Jodi. I especially like “I will listen with my whole heart.” I will also ask a lot of questions, to give people the opportunity to talk through what they mean, what they want to say, what their logic and rationalizations are. It kind of goes with the “listen with my whole heart.”

I hope you’ve been having a wonderful holiday with your loved ones!

I will deepen my meditation practice and reinforce habits to expand a joyful spirit. I will be more self aware of those times when I am tempted to close my heart in judgment or fear, and choose instead to keep my heart open with compassion and forgiveness.

What a great post…my own renewal commitments for the coming year are fairly simple, and somewhat inspired by all I’ve learned from your site and your many insightful comments on mine. In 2013, I commit to: 1) Seeing and honoring the true and eternal beauty of everyone who crosses my path. 2) Being more patient with myself and others. 3) Letting my “music” out – both the literal music and the rest of my “music”. Thanks for all you do to help us all grow.
