Dear Mother Earth: Thank You!

Dear Mother Earth,

Thank you for your colors, the “Disney” green of the moss, the deep blue of the sky, the stark white of the clouds. The red and purple in the setting sun.

Thank you for your plants.  They sustain us with food, give us medicine to heal our bodies, wood for our shelter, raw material for clothing. They provide our oxygen. And, they are our greatest teachers and make constant sacrifices for us, always willingly, purposefully.

Mother Earth,

Thank you for your rocks and dirt. They help the plants grow, provide homes and show strength and beauty in the smallest tokens.

Thank you for your water. It sustain all of our body functions, cleans us, provided hours of entertainment whether we are playing in it or watching it.

Thank you for your animals, who are our companions, show us love and teach us how to play and live close to the earth.

Dear Mother Earth,

Thank you for the air around us. The pressure keeps us upright, stable, allows us to breathe, to see the world around us. It allows us to enjoy. Thank you for the wind who whispers messages from Spirit.

Thank you for fire that keep us warm, heals us, ignites our passion, and cooks our food.

Dear Mother Earth,

Thank you for your support all of these years. You have been there for me to stand on, sit on, lie on. Never letting me fall even though some time I have made choices that were not in your best interest. Let me be more conscious of my choices than before: walk ever more gently, give back constantly, and always be open to hear your messages. Let me know you in a new way than before, know me in a new way than before.  A me that is closer, more mindful, careful, respectful.

Thank you!

Love,

Jodi

  1. This is very beautiful! I haven’t heard before last year through Facebook about Earth Day, and I loved the concept.
My mother was SO close to nature, to Earth, to animals.I could see such a big connection, and so much love in her eyes when she took care of her plants at home. I remember even being so jealous and telling her i wish i was one of your plant on the balcony. I guess that is the reason why i never approach or water our plants. I wish i was more courageous 10 years ago. She died on Earth day

Wow, how significant that she died on earth day, she was a true harbinger of the earth it sounds like. It is bitter sweet knowing how you longed for that attention, though. Who does water your plants? Given your feelings, I am wondering why you own plants, but I could venture a guess!

      1. Your guess is right!I love plants, just not taking care of them. Her plants all got sick with her and died with her however we tried to save them.We had plants everywhere, it was all green and so beautiful. The only recommendation when she traveled every year was, please my Plants, and I used to take really good care of them to make her happy. I can write pages about her plants!!

    Nice post Jodi!

I think your words said it all and it’s a great way of showing your gratitude to Mother Earth!

I don’t have anything specific laid out for Earth Day as I believe we should instill these things in our daily lives and make it worthwhile. I teach my kids to do the same and we as a family, make sure that each day is spent in gratitude for the things we have got, which includes all that Mother Earth has given us. 🙂

I can’t really limit it into a few words as the list really runs endless, but yes, we care and we take actions for making things work.

    Thanks for sharing. 🙂

Cynthia! I am so into that! I take my own Tupperware to restaurants! Seriously! How easy is it, really?

  3. Hi, I am going to a green festival this weekend. It is supposed to rain, but the earth needs that, too! This was beautiful and inspirational. I never thought about the air alloying us to see, but really if there was space between things, how we we distinguish them.

  4. Hi Jodi,

We have so much beauty surrounding us as nature pours out its Love in so many ways….and we have a new cousin and niece born today who will always remember Earth day on her Birthday…it rhymes!!!!

    Love you!

  5. Jodi, Such a beautiful post! I have fond memories of Earth Day. I’m probably one of the few who remembers the first Earth Day ever celebrated. I was in high school at the time and we held a march for Earth. I felt then that I was part of something great, but I never gave a thought that we were starting a tradition. Pretty cool!

  6. Beautiful – we do need to take time and be thankful, appreciate what we have and what we’ve been given. You are likely one her golden children, Jodi. Thanks for giving us pause, something to remember and cherish.

  7. I didn’t know it was Earth Day, but I did the perfect thing. I loaded up the dog in the car and we went up to my mountain cabin for a long weekend. Thursday, we built a fire in the fireplace, went for a walk, went down to the creek to see what was happening, and napped in the dog’s favorite recliner. A perfect Earth Day!

  11. Welcome everyone ! I’m Jody Read.
Even though I jokingly credit my aunt for my writing talent, I know that it is a ability I have fostered from childhood. Though my grandmother is a writer, I also started out young.
I’ve always had a way with words, according to my favorite teacher . I was always so excited in science when we had to do a research writing assignment.
Now, I help current pupils achieve the grades that have always come easily to me. It is my way of giving back to students because I understand the troubles they must overcome to graduate.

  12. Hello Jodi… I just found this initiative and found it so inspiring and aligned with the creative energy flow all around… by chance (even though I don’t call it a chance) I am launching a new art series called “Letters Of Forgiveness to the Earth” where I as an artist Ask for forgiveness and guidance to our planet, especially when We kind of Loose our faith and hope in humankind. I’d love you to see it and give me your feedback. It’s now up on my IG profile. @monsieurduran.

    Hugs from Costa Rica. 😉
