Healing with humor: When I feel down and out, I turn to humor to help me through. It lifts my spirits, clears away the clouds and helps me feels refreshed and energized. It is better than a good night sleep! So taken up with the idea of laughter, many researchers have studied it’s effects. If these don’t, asking a funny friend out to dinner, or watching funny videos on YouTube, I am not sure what will!
Five Reason’s Laughter is The Best Medicine
1. Laughter brings joy and euphoria
It is so fun to just let yourself go, throw your head back and laugh. Who doesn’t want joy and euphoria? I am first in line!
2. Laughter improves your immune system
Laughter increases levels of circulating antibodies, the cells in your body that help fight disease. What else can I say? “Scientifically proven” convinces me every time. (Fry, “Mirth and the human cardiovascular system,” in The Study of Humor, ed. Harvey Mindess and Joy Turek (Los Angeles: Antioch University Press, 1979).
3. Laughter reduces pain, anxiety and tension
Laughter decreases your chance of stress related illness. Also, laughter and anxiety cannot live the same moment together. It distracts us from our problems, but unlike a vise (drugs, TV, shopping), it puts us in the present moment. Then our problems look different. Also, sometimes things are so bad, you just have to laugh at the hilarity.
4. Laughter connects you to others
Laughing with someone creates a bond between you and them, a positive, delightful memory that gets stored for later use. Thinking about it again later can bring the same feelings of joy and euphoria you felt while making the memory. Laughter is contagious.
“Today, give a stranger one of your smiles. It might be the only sunshine they see all day.”
5. Laughter raises Your Vibration
Everything has a frequency. From bananas to your wallet. The more pure, happy things have a higher frequency. Dead decaying things, or depressed things have a low frequency. That’s why this zaps your energy. Vibrating at a higher frequency feels really good. Vibrating at a low frequency feels really bad. You can raise your vibration through meditation, compassion, love, being in nature, breathing techniques, and many other ways. But laughter is the most fun and extremely and immediately effective. It is like a energy shower!
Healing with Humor
When I need healing with humor. I go to YouTube. I even use it with my clients! (Using Youtube for Anxiety.) Here are some videos guaranteed to make you laugh. When you are sad, please watch them and the million more that are on there.
I love Brian Regan! Just good clean humor. Hard to do.
People falling really makes me laugh. I feel so guilty that I am laughing when it is so clear that they were injured. It is amazing how our body flops around. And then people get up from the craziest accidents and start walking. So I won’t put any of those up so you I don’t offend anyone who has ever fallen in their life. But there are tons on there for your viewing pleasure.
Instead, I will embed a video that makes fun of therapists. This is a classic.
Sometime we use humor to bring awareness like these comedians…
Ellen always uses humor and her platform to share an important message.

You know I love this post! LOL! I had seen the Stop It clip. Love SNL, Mad TV, etc. I have always watched comedy. I turn it off only if it gets too raunchy. It’s been great training for what I do now.

I totally should have linked to you hysterical blog. I always read you, never fail, it cheers me up.
My banana has a frequency?!
This is actually great reading for me. I’m generally happy and smiley, but as an introvert who spends a lot of time in my own head…it can get a bit serious in there at times! I rely on my kids to crack me up on a daily basis but it’s been ages since I took some time to watch comedy. Thanks Jodi.
Sounds like, “My bologna has a first name….”
“My banana has a frequency….”
I can think of nothing better than laughter to ease the tension, relieve the stress, or simply to enjoy the pleasure of a moment. My favorite sort of laughing is when it comes on me unexpectedly, like when someone says something or in a book, and especially when I am with my kids.. Good video choices, btw.
